Landlords: The good, the bad and the ugly
Our Regional Operations Manager Fran Mulhall explains how unscrupulous landlords put the North East private rented sector at risk. Here, she explains why we need to support the good by driving out the bad and the ugly.
“With the lettings market continuing to thrive, more people are renting their homes than ever before which has, of course, led to a huge increase in landlords. As with many things, there’s a dark side to such growth. In this case, it’s the establishment and rise of rogue landlords. According to Generation Rent statistics, criminal landlords actually earn £5bn in rent a year.
Although thankfully in the minority, negligent landlords do destabilise the private rented sector, including the North East market, by knowingly letting unsafe and substandard property. That’s why it’s vital as agents we take a united stance against their activity, with the aim of driving them out of the sector altogether and improving the quality of rented housing stock in the North East.
Students Get Festive with Christmas Baubles
Westfield School, Gosforth recently enjoyed a fun filled day of festivities creating Christmas baubles for residential letting and property management company, GFW Letting.
As part of a special Christmas competition, 92 schoolgirls, aged between 3 and 11 years old, were each asked to design a bauble which would be used as part of the Christmas decorations at the GFW Letting, Kenton office. A winner from each class was chosen by the GFW Letting team and awarded tickets to visit Seven Stories, National Centre for Children’s Books in Newcastle. Each student who took part was also given a chocolate treat as a thank you for their time and effort in designing the baubles.
Stacey Wann, Property Manager at GFW Letting, said: “It’s been an absolute pleasure to work with the students at Westfield School. The girls produced some fantastic baubles showcasing their imagination and artistic talent. The baubles are currently taking pride of place in our front window at our Kenton office – bringing some festive joy and colour to the premises and surroundings.”
Susan Hann, Nursery teacher at Westfield School in Gosforth, said: “It was nice to be approached by GFW Letting and get the children involved in an art activity with a festive theme. The bauble designs were brilliant and I am pleased all of them have been put on display at the GFW Letting office. The winners were delighted with their prizes and are looking forward to visiting Seven Stories with their families.”
